ARTIST STATEMENT
Not about vanity
This series of portraits is NOT about beauty. They are NOT about vanity or nourishing an ego. They are NOT about an exact likeness or an “Ode” to. They are images of at risk, marginalized, creative, thought provoking, eccentric, challenging and sometimes difficult people who have all impacted me in some significant way. Each image gains value as the years pass and serve as a moment frozen in time where the subject will not age, wither or die. Even when they are gone, they are not lost. I am always reminded of their contributions to my life. They help define who I am.

Coppage originally from Chicago, Ill and now resides in Cincinnati Ohio. He studied at Memphis College of Art and obtained a BFA degree with an emphasis in sculpture. He continued his education and obtained an MFA degree from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts(PAFA) with an emphasis in sculpture and mixed media.
